The essential oil of S. lavandulifolia demonstrated a selective inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase. This means that it inhibits the acetylcholinesterase enzyme from breaking down acetylcholine in the brain, thereby increasing both the level and duration of action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.[1:1]
